Why Midtown Beats Downtown for Work Events
Commutes, timing and attendance: why Midtown Manhattan venues outperform downtown for corporate and team events.
Attendance is the only metric that matters for an internal event, and attendance is mostly a function of how hard it is to get there.
Transit density decides your turnout
Midtown sits on top of Grand Central, Penn Station, Herald Square and Port Authority. That covers Metro-North, LIRR, NJ Transit and most of the subway map. Downtown venues can be beautiful and still lose thirty percent of a commuter-heavy guest list on a weeknight.
The 6pm start actually works
When the venue is a ten-minute walk from the office, a 6pm start means a 6:10 room. When it is a thirty-minute journey, the same invitation produces a room that fills at 7 and a program that runs late.
It ends cleanly
People leave a Midtown event when they intend to, because the train home is around the corner. Nobody spends the last hour negotiating a ride. For an event you want remembered warmly, a clean ending is worth more than an extra hour.
